Eos Review
2 things arrived today early this morning by FedEx: A computer part to fix some wonkiness I’ve had lately (thus the no updates in a while) and Eos, the first pullip doll released in a limited edition steampunk set.
Unfortunately, her awesomeness was tarnished by the fact her factory face-up had streaks and smudges in the finish I think turned out to be some kind of glue residue. Not scratches, which are harder to fix, but I still had to spend a good hour carefully cleaning and restoring her face, which does not make for a happy Requiem. More pictures and an in-depth review after the cut

She comes with a pretty elaborate steampunk outfit, which is of…. well not so great quality. There are lots of stock pieces, which all look pretty great, but like her face had issues straight out of the box. Her wire garter belts were not connected to her ‘stockings’, studs fell off in my hands from other clothing bits. All these things can be fixed with some glue and sewing, but if the doll is a MSRP of $150, you expect it to be on par with other dolls like Blythe and Barbie in the same price range.

As I was uploading the pictures, I realized I was uploading them with the Canon EOS utility. I don’t know if this is coincidence, but seeing as how I’ve never heard “Eos” before, and don’t think it’s a translation of anything…

Gorgeous face. Totally worth the work of repairing the finish. I especially love how she has unusual eyebrows, not the standard sweet-girl arches. The wig is going to absolutely need a conditioning treatment though. It feels dry, which usually means it will be frizzy in a very short period of time if extra care and attention are not given to it immediately.
Skintone is an OK match for a pale obitsu, and her stock fits a medium bust or smaller 27cm, for anyone else out there who body swaps.
Overall, I am pretty happy. I would have liked the quality control to be a bit better, but I’ve been collecting pullips for so long, I’ve come to expect it.

Shame shame on Groove for glue and trimming flaws on a limited $100+ dolly… then again I hear some pretty interesting horror stories from Fashion Royalty (staining, mold in boxes) and Barbie collectors (unannounced missing lower legs) so it would seem that price isn’t a guarantee of quality control.
If you ever do find a cure for deep scratches (melting down bait head plastic + sanding?) I have a small piece of soul reserved for you (I’m selling shares on my soul, too many wishes!).
I’ve been working on an Assa who’s head was covered in superglue inside and out. Sanding + lots of gentle work prying the head apart with a knife + epoxy worked fine… only to find that a black dot on her cheek I thought was a little ‘easy’ stain was actually a deep hole *head-desk*
Bonus LOL: wanted to put a link to my photostream in the URL box here and so googled “flickr saffy”, to get this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/saffy T_T; Might explain why so many tranny pictures come up when searching for “doll” on flickr!

Eos is the Greek goddess of the dawn.
Her faceup really looks gorgeous!

I just got my Eos yesterday and she is lovely. I checked my doll for the glue thing and she has smudges too! None of my stock outfit fell apart though, I’m sorry about yours. I have to say though, her face up is just gorgeous. I love everything about it
The wig is really dry, mine has started frizzing up a little already. I’m slightly disappointed with mine, I’ve had to reinsert limbs 5 times already. Eventually I’ll probably get an obitsu, wig and try to save her face up, but for now I’ll just resume drooling over her, lol ^_^

Ah, I always knew Aurora, but not Eos.
MN, for the wig thing, just wash and condition her hair. Now. Use a lot of conditioner and let it sit for a couple of minutes before you rinse it out with cold water. I also use Redken extreme anti-snap leave in conditioner on some of my dolls, it does a wonder at keeping them silky. I already did this with my Eos, and her hair is much nicer.

Thanks, I just checked the lab pages (I cannot thank you enough for posting all your information, it’s just great) and I’m about to go do the conditioner treatment. Did you just use conditioner or did you use the curling iron treatment?

I got a 2nd hand Eos, she is “Lady Lindy” . I noticed right off the start that her stock was extremely fragile. I guess owner number 1 snapped the staff or it arrived NRFB that way to her. Also it took at least 2 hours to put her together and her left arm kept popping out of her shoulder socket. Very difficult. I would love to photograph her – yet her stock bod is so fragile; I think obitsu is coming sooner than expected. I am still learning that one basic customizing technique since that is about all I can do! I just get the neck part wrong somehow. When I redid my Princi (Pandora) I thought I followed all the instructions on here. Then it seemed like a couple of days later her head became completely wobbly.
Trying to fix that too.
Thanks for the tips on Lady Lindy’s stock wig. I just did a special braid on it for now. I will end up conditioning when obitsu transformation happens. Thanks again for this great website!

“Eos” is the name of a Greek goddess. Sometimes it’s translated to the Latin as “Aurora”. She’s Helios sister and the goddess of dawn and dawn breeze. People commonly refer to her as “the one with rozy fingers”.
